Colourful Spring Birch and Aspen Tree Painting by Calgary Landscape Artist Melissa McKinnon
This painting is loaded with layers and layers of vibrant, colourful leaves and thickly textured tree bark. Hints of metallic gold mica pigment makes this painting shimmer and shine as the light changes throughout the day.
Quite possibly my favourite to date!
“Where the Light Lingers” 48″x60″Acrylic Painting on Canvas
My goal when painting is to create a picture that is beautiful, bold and interesting enough from afar that it entices the viewer to move in and investigate the painting up close and personal. It’s in the details where the magic happens.
The surface of my paintings are so thickly textured that the landscape can be felt through touch as well as seen. The smooth shiny areas of tree bark contrasts with areas of thick, rough, papery layers creating a very realistic sensory experience.
I encourage you to get up close and immerse yourself in the forest of colour, pattern and texture.
As the title “Where the Light Lingers” suggests, here you can see how the sunlight grazes across the surface of the sculpted leaves creating areas of shimmery light and shadow.
As the quality of light changes throughout the day, so does the mood and atmosphere of the painting, it’s really quite beautiful!
