Painting For Myself This Time: NEW Aspen and Birch Tree Painting In Progress By Alberta Contemporary Landscape Painter Melissa McKinnon

Sometimes taking a break to do something for ourselves is the perfect way to gather energy and inspiration for what comes next.

This month I completed and delivered two custom painting commissions, one of which was a massive six-foot painting!

I’m taking a quick break before I start another three commissions in May.

For the remainder of April I have been using my time in the studio to paint for myself. I find this is necessary to do often, especially when I spend the majority of my time painting commissions. It is relaxing, rejuvenating and inspiring!

Here is my NEW Aspen and Birch Tree Painting In Progress:

I am using a new colour palette of rich jewel toned blues and purples combined with earthy greens, contrasted with bursts of bright lime green as accents.

I looooooove these colours and I can’t stop looking at this painting as it develops.

Tell me, what are your favorite colours of the moment? What colours would you like to see in my next painting?

Share your ideas in the comment section below or send me a note directly and if I use your suggestion I will give you a shout out in my next blog post!
