Last night my painting, “High Water” was sold at the artRISE exhibition and fundraiser at The Art Gallery of Calgary. The exhibition featured an auction of a diverse collection of paintings, sculptures, prints, and mixed media art by some of Calgary’s most sought after contemporary artists. All funds raised from this event will go directly to EAR Elephant Artists Relief in support of the 2013 Calgary Flood Relief efforts.
“High Water” 20″x20″ Acrylic on Canvas
My painting of the Bow River, “High Water”, was created specifically for this event and was inspired by the floods that devastated much of Calgary and Southern Alberta in June 2013. As a born and raised Calgarian, it was heart breaking to experience the devastation of the flooding that overtook our beautiful city. I witnessed the flood first hand and I was awestruck by the erosion of boundaries between water and land and that is what I aimed to express in this painting.
Of the 75 works of art available, only 25 were purchased last night. Thank you to my newest collectors for selecting my painting to add to their personal collection. It was wonderful to spend some time getting to know Kristi-Lee and her husband. They drove all the way from Lethbridge in a blizzard just so they could support artRISE and our local art community. My painting “High Water” will be the second original work of art in their collection.
If you are interested in purchasing one of the remaining works of art, they will be available HERE until December 20th through the Art Gallery of Calgary.
The study for “High Water” is now available for purchase. This is a smaller version of the painting above with a slightly different colour palette.
