As I was editing images of my newest landscape painting, “Prairie Sky” to share on the blog, I came across this close-up detail image of the foreground and it sparked an “Aha!” moment.
No longer did I see a close-up detail of a prairie landscape painting, I saw only color and texture. I saw broken pieces and fragments held together with thin colored marks, holding the pieces together like band-aids. I began to envision a series of portraits created in this style, built from all of the bits and pieces that come together to form a person; Physical traits; Life experiences; Thoughts and emotions. I love the symbolism in it. I have been thinking about this ever since.
I know I was born to be a painter because this is the kind of stuff that keeps me up at night.
Wouldn’t this be a beautiful palette for a portrait? Thoughts?
